Two Journeys / Deux Voyages
The journeys described in song in these two CDs spans snapshots of family life in small town Iowa, stories of loves found, lost and recalled in the cobblestone streets of Washington DC’s Georgetown, the Latin Quarter in Paris, and magical interludes along park pathways in Indian Summer. A businessman’s regrets as life and relationships seem to be falling apart, and bittersweet memories of a boyhood love he left behind but cannot forget. Despite the differences in language and culture, six of these songs arc over from English to French, revealing the shared concerns of life and love on both sides of the Atlantic.
Two bonus tracks on CD1 break the mold. A quintessentially American story of four generations of railroad men helping to build the nation from the 1860s to the present in “Bailey Yard”, and hymn to the joy of anticipating the arrival of the holiday season in “November.” (While Americans celebrate November’s warmth and comradery, the French call this “the sad month,” lamenting it’s cold and rainy weather. Perhaps the French version should be called “December”?)
The process of composing, performing and recording these songs has been a journey as well. A journey of musical experimentation and discovery, both challenging and rewarding. More important however is that these songs evoke universal emotions, as the listener perceives in these stories their own lives and the journeys of people they know and love. So come; embark on this musical voyage; imagine, dream and enjoy!
