Moonlight Rainy Evenin' in Old Georgetown
Robbin Ahrold
On these cobblestone streets where patroits strolled
In the flickering gaslight from street lamps of old
Hand in hand I romanced you with sweet serenades
Now you’re gone but these streets still remind me of you
A memory that never fades. . .
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown,
When the rain on the leaves catches moonlight shinin' down
I'm a walkin' alone listenin' to my footfalls
Wonderin' if you ever really loved me at all
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown.
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown
When the branches are a glisten with the starlight shining down
I'm rememberin' all the ways that you held me tight
I'm rememberin' all the ways that you kissed me right
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown.
All alone on the slippery sidewalks of old Georgetown
No matter how I try, you’re still with me, still around,
There’s magic in these streets that the rain just can’t wash down
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown.
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown
I await your return and I hope you won't let me down,
Well, I met your new love, I didn't want to tell
But he's not-a worth your trouble, he's an empty shell
Come and walk with-a me on a moonlight rainy evenin'
On a moonlight rainy evenin' in old Georgetown.

About the song

A jaunty song about missing a lost love. Think Lovin’ Spoonful. Originally composed May 8th, 1967, while a student at Georgetown University. Dug this one out of an old songbook, re-wrote the lyric and added an intro “verse” on February 13, 2018. I wrote over 100 songs in the 60s, most while at Georgetown, and very few stand up today. This one has a cetain retro charm.
